What Is a VMC Machine? Types, Uses & Working Explained

How a VMC Machine Works

The part is clamped onto the machine’s table.

The CNC program tells the machine which tool to pick from the ATC.

The spindle collects the tool and spins it at the defined speed.

Then, the machine moves the tool along X, Y, and Z axes to remove material precisely where required.

Coolant is directed onto the cutting zone to control heat and flush chips away.

Once a feature like a pocket or a tapped hole is complete, the VMC automatically changes the tool and continues to the next step.

Because every motion is digitally controlled, the VMC can repeat the same operation cycle after cycle, allowing consistent accuracy from prototype to production.
